The great news is that you have things right in your home that can provide you fast-acting relief. The word sunburn says it all, your skin has been burned by the sun which can cause pain, redness, blisters, and peeling skin.

Inflammation

One of the first things you’ll want to address in the inflammation caused by the sunburn. Taking a cool shower or bath can help reduce swelling and pain. You can also use a cold compress to relieve inflammation in designated areas.

When you are sunburned, it is important that you re-hydrate to help your body recover. If you have anti-inflammatory medications, those can help too. Some of the most common over the counter anti-inflammatory medications include aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen.

Apple cider vinegar also has anti-inflammatory properties that can also stimulate circulation and speed up the healing process. In addition, it helps maintain your skin’s ph levels which can help reduce blistering and peeling.

To apply vinegar to the skin you can use a spray bottle, or dip a washcloth into the vinegar. Pat the cloth gently over the infected areas. Be sure to dilute the vinegar before you spray or apply it to your skin. You can also dilute apple cider vinegar into a bath which will provide both healing and relief.

Do’s and Dont’s with Sunburns

Although you’ll feel the need to moisturize your skin, stay away from moisturizing products with scents. Fragrant products can further irritate your skin causing you even more discomfort. Un-scented lotions or aloe vera gels can help bring faster relief without the irritation.

After a few days, your skin may blister. As the blisters form it is important that you take care not to break the blisters open. Instead, continue to gently moisturize the skin. Treating your sunburn as quickly as possible can help reduce the signs of aging.

Peeling often follows blistering which can cause you to itch. Keep in mind that the skin is damaged and is sensitive. Scratching can result in scars and peeling off the skin can result in infection.

It is also vital that you protect burned areas from further exposure to the sun. Wear clothing to cover your sunburn and apply sunscreen before you venture out.
