Generally, summer gets all the credit for great outdoor workouts, but there are plenty of cold weather workouts that will keep you in shape! Bundle up and get outdoors or stay inside and workout from home – no matter what time of year!

Skiing or Snowboarding

No doubt two of the most popular outdoor activities.  Downhill skiing burns calories and is a great workout, but if you are looking to add to your workout, you can burn up to 1,000 calories an hour uphill cross-country skiing. If you prefer snowboarding or just need a break from skiing, snowboarding will provide you the same benefits to keep in shape.

Ice Skating

Fun for the whole family! Ice skating, even at a leisurely speed can burn up to 250 calories per hour. If you love ice skating and are looking to beef up your game – join an ice hockey team at your local recreation center.

Shoveling Snow

Most people don’t think about snow shoveling as a workout, but it’s an awesome way to get a full upper body workout! You’ll feel it in your arms, chest and shoulders and burn calories while getting a needed project out of the way.  Next time it snows, opt to do it yourself instead of paying for snow removal.

Snow Ball Fights

Get outside, be a kid again and bring the kids for hours of entertainment and just plain old fun! This is by far my favorite winter workout and one I don’t dread going out to do. Run, dodge, duck, throw and build snow forts for your home bases.  All of these require a lot of energy and promote cardio exercise while having a blast.

Home Workout Videos or TV Workouts

If you just hate the cold, home workouts and resources have come a long way!  You can rent, buy, download or even watch for free on any device. You can follow along on your phone, tablet, tv or pc and the options of types of workouts are limitless.
