In February, actress and Instagram influencer Anna Duggar decided to challenge herself to make a positive change in her life. The goal? To walk 50 miles that month.
Duggar explained via Instagram that while she once “used the ‘busy mom’ excuse,” it was time to fix that. She said she’d seen how her friends had made physical fitness resolutions for the new year and it inspired her.
To reach her goal, she needed to walk about two or three miles per day, “with a few extra days to rest.”
Some of her followers even decided to join the challenge – and perhaps we should, too.
While Duggar decided to complete the challenge in February, it’s never too late to start a daily walking routine.
If you walk every day, it’s less than 2 miles of walking a day, which really isn’t so tough. By making it two or three miles each day, you allow yourself a few days off here and there. The key is to be consistent.
Additionally, posting their progress on social media helped give many people the necessary accountability for them to stick with the goal.
Beating her goal by 5 miles in February, Duggar resolved to do it again in March.
Duggar’s fans certainly noticed a difference in her after she completed the challenge. Some even noticed a difference in themselves after also adopting the task as well.
“She has toned up with all that walking!! Looking great!” said one commenter. Others chimed in saying that they, too, had been inspired to do it and were now looking and feeling amazing.
Walking can help you meet weight-loss goals, sure, but it also has a myriad of other health benefits. It can reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, certain cancers, and more.
The daily exercise can also shorten how long it takes you to fall asleep and ensure you sleep more soundly. That, of course, can have seriously positive impacts on your mood.
This challenge requires nothing more than a comfortable and supportive pair of walking shoes. And if you’re just starting to be more active, it’s okay to knock your miles out in small chunks. You don’t need to walk 2 miles straight all in one go.
Instead, you could go for a short walk in the morning, another during your lunch break, and another in the evening. This approach can also make it easier to find time to get your exercise in.
As for tracking your progress, that’s up to you – you don’t have to post it online, but you can.
