Everyone has bad days, whether you just woke up feeling a little down or things just don’t seem to be going your way. Instead of crawling back into bed, try these tips to help give your spirit that little extra boost it needs to finish your day.
Take a few minutes to vent it out to a friend or write your feelings in a journal. Doing so will help diffuse the negative feelings and get them off your chest. Be completely honest about how you are feeling in that exact moment but be careful to not get sucked in deeper. This is the reason we said, “take a FEW minutes.”
Now take a few moments to reflect on your conversation or what you wrote. You may have uncovered the root of you ill feelings. Make adjustments and take action to move past the feelings. If it’s a project you’ve been neglecting – get to work. Relationship issues – pick up the phone. Burnt out – take a self-care day and time to yourself.
Numerous studies show that exercise produces serotonin and endorphins. These are proven to be natural mood enhancers. Go for a run, dance around – any kind of movement to get these levels up will help.
Slow down and take a few deep, focused breathes. This will help reduce stress levels and make you more grounded.
Get up and go outside or at least to a different room. Sometimes a change of scenery or a moment to take in the fresh air can help improve your mood. Maybe you head to the bathroom and spruce yourself up or take a walk to enjoy nature and appreciate your surroundings.
Nothing can change a bad attitude around better than taking a moment to count the things you are grateful for. Take a moment to list the top 10 things you are grateful for and you’ll quickly see an improvement in your mood.
