Ditch the Foundation and Use This Instead!

From our Friends at HeyPumpkin: As a teenager who dealt with acne, scarring, and discoloration, I started wearing foundation at around 13 or 14 years old. I couldn’t believe there was a product that could hide all of my imperfections while also evening out my skin tone at the same time. It was a miracle product! But, as I got older, I started to realize foundation was doing more harm to my skin than good. Sure, it covered up my dark circles and helped me deal with hormonal breakouts, but it was ultimately clogging my pores (which then led to more skin issues).

Recently, in anticipation of summer, I stopped using foundation altogether. Not only has my skin looked better as a result, but I feel like my overall makeup routine has improved. My skin feels lighter, healthier, and even more hydrated. Whether you’re motivated by saving money or helping your skin, here are a few reasons why you should stop using foundations once and for all.

You’ll Save Money

There’s no question makeup is expensive, and foundation is usually the most expensive product in people’s makeup routine. While you can certainly get a bottle of foundation for less than $20, countless brands sell their products for upwards of $50 or more. Needless to say, it adds up. If you’re wanting to cut back on how much money you spend on makeup, eliminating foundation could save you a good chunk of change down the road.

Your Skin Will Feel Better

We often wear makeup (and foundation, specifically) to cover any discoloration, blemishes, or uneven textures, but the truth is our skin is happier when we don’t put layers of makeup on it every day. If you’re looking to improve your skin and want to start investing in good skincare products, simply start by not wearing foundation. While some foundations are hydrating and skin-friendly, there are plenty that’ll just end up clogging your pores. And, especially in the summer, you’ll want your skin to be able to breathe as much as possible.

The Natural Look Is In

Long gone are the days of the “matte” look, now it’s all about having natural, dewy skin. Don’t be afraid to show off your skin and let it breathe! I’m not saying you need to give up on makeup altogether, but the “no makeup” makeup look is totally having a moment. If you have freckles, let them shine!

You Can Cover Imperfections With Lighter Products

Now I know what you’re saying — “But what if I want to cover up my imperfections?” Well, that’s why they made concealer. Instead of putting a layer (or two) of foundation on your face, simply cover any areas you want to conceal with a little spot corrector. This will keep your skin looking fresh and natural while also dealing with any issues you may want to cover.

Try These Products Instead of Traditional Foundation

So, if you’re looking to move off of foundation once and for all, try using a tinted moisturizer or skin tint instead. Tinted moisturizers and skin tints (from both the drugstore and department stores) have a bit of coverage to even out your skin tone and also have SPF to keep you safe from the sun.
