Which Diet Is the Best for Losing Weight?

As a general rule of thumb, any diet that involves changing your intake dramatically is probably not something you want to just dive into. Paleo, keto, and Atkins, for instance, all ask you make a major shift the way you take in nutrients from different food groups. Make sure you talk to your general physician about any major lifestyle change of this scale.

However, what may be more impactful than jumping into some massively lifestyle-altering diet is simply watching your calories and cutting out junk food. It might sound quaint and overly simplistic, but it’s a proven factor: If you eat a balanced diet, you’ll lose weight.

What Is a Balanced Diet, Exactly?

Generally speaking, a balanced diet is one with a good amount of protein, the right mix of fruits and vegetables, and lots of vitamins and minerals. Junk foods–those overly fattening or highly salty foods with lots of preservatives–are right out of a proper balanced diet. Likewise, sugary soft drinks, candy bars, and sugar-filled pastries can be jettisoned from your diet.

In the simplest terms, just “eating healthy” should amount to a balanced diet. We all know that fruits and vegetables are good for us and that we need lots of protein and vitamins. It’s just a matter of reminding ourselves every day to eat the right foods and steer clear of the worst offenders in the junk food world!

Fitness and Diet, Hand in Hand

A surefire way to lose weight is to eat a balanced diet and to engage in fitness activities. Hitting the gym, going for runs, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, investing in a standing desk: These are all ways to prioritize fitness.

Fitness and a balanced diet work together to make you healthier. If you’re looking to lose weight, stick to the basics: eat better and work out. That’s really all there is to it!
