I’m sure you already know the importance of being physically active and sticking to your workout routine. Consistency is key when you’re trying to stay in shape, feel good, and see results.
But it can be difficult to stay on track and not lose motivation.
If you’ve started your journey towards fitness success, but are finding it difficult to stick with it for the long run, here are a few things that you can do to keep yourself motivated.
This can be especially tough for really busy people, but I can’t stress it enough. Sleep is incredibly important for your health, and it’s necessary for you to get enough to recharge your body’s batteries and make sure you have the energy to make it through the day.
A lack of sleep can cause a host of problems besides drowsiness: forgetfulness, mood changes, and even weight gain. Over a long period of time, it can also put you at risk for more serious problems like heart disease, stroke, or high blood pressure.
You don’t have to conquer an intense workout session every day, but you should still make sure to do some sort of moderate physical activity every single day. Some days you can have a high intensity workout, while other days you can switch it up with a brisk walk around your neighborhood.
Just keep moving–and keep it up every day. It’s much easier to see results and stay motivated if you manage to fit exercise into to your schedule each day.
I’m sure you already know that it’s much easier to do an activity that you get a kick out of. If you find yourself dreading lifting weights at 6 a.m., try finding a workout routine that you enjoy more. You won’t have to strive nearly as hard to find the motivation to work out if it’s fun.
There are plenty of other activities that can help you stay active besides traditional workouts. You can try taking a pole dancing or Zumba class, or head out for a bicycle ride. Circus arts are a great workout (think: acrobatics, aerial silks, trapeze), or maybe boxing is more your style.
There’s nothing like our friends to keep us motivated! Find yourself a workout buddy who is interested in the same kinds of workout routines. You can pump each other up and keep each other motivated. It might also make your workouts more fun if you’ve got a friend there.
Also, don’t be afraid to use social media to your advantage. Even if you don’t have a workout buddy who is physically present, you can still find motivation from friends online. They can rally behind you and offer tips from wherever they might be.
