In 2018, Beyoncé wowed the world with her historic Coachella performance, soon dubbed #Beychella. As the first black woman to headline the festival, and with her existing repertoire, it undoubtedly had to be epic.
Her iconic presence, that stage set, the Destiny’s Child reunion and other special guests – it’s all anyone could talk about.
Of course, there’s a lot that goes into something like Beychella. And with Beyoncé having given birth to twins in June of 2017, losing the baby weight was certainly an undertaking.
Now, with her new documentary Homecoming released on Netflix, we’re learning just exactly what she went through. That includes the restrictive diet she adhered to in order to shed those extra pounds.
You’ve heard of celebrities doing keto, paleo, juice cleanses, and all sorts of fad diets. Beyoncé, however, went on perhaps the most restrictive diet we’ve heard of yet.
“In order for me to meet my goals, I’m limiting myself to no bread, no carbs, no sugar, no dairy, no meat, no fish, no alcohol – and I’m hungry,” Beyoncé said in her documentary.
We’re not sure we could even manage that if we tried. Much less would we have energy left over to rehearse dance routines. It certainly doesn’t leave many meal options on the table.
Reportedly, the superstar and mother of three weighed in at 218 pounds when her twins were born. With Coachella less than a year away, she employed the super-strict diet as a way to lose the extra weight.
In Homecoming, we see her try on an old costume just over a month before her big performance.
“OK this is seriously a huge accomplishment because I didn’t think I would ever get into my old costume, and I’m in it and I can still move. I’ve sacrificed a lot, I’ve been working hard,” she said before calling her husband Jay Z to share the news.
Hard work and weight loss aside, Beyoncé also has a more body positive outlook now as well. In an interview with Vogue, she explained she’s ok with being a bit “fuller” now.
“I have a little mommy pouch, and I’m in no rush to get rid of it. I think it’s real,” she told the magazine. “Whenever I’m ready to get a six-pack, I will go into beast zone and work my ass off until I have it. But right now, my little FUPA and I feel like we are meant to be.”
