If you’re one of those folk who hates getting up and going to the gym, we get it. That’s not uncommon at all. Perhaps the thought of reaching our fitness goals just isn’t motivating enough.
If that’s the case, it could help to have someone there to nudge you in the right direction. Enter, the workout buddy.
Instead of slapping that snooze button, you feel a greater sense of obligation. You aren’t going to flake on your buddy, are you? That’s how powerful a workout partner can be. But, not only do they hold you accountable, there are additional benefits as well.
Here are some tips for finding that ideal workout buddy.
Teaming up with your bff is the most obvious choice, right? But what if your BFF doesn’t live nearby?
If you can’t find someone local to work out with, that’s ok. There are plenty of ways you can still workout with your friends. For example, you could set up a video call, or simply sign up for the same online classes. Either way, you’ll be more motivated to get up and out of bed.
You don’t have to be the best of friends to be workout partners. Perhaps one of your colleagues has similar fitness goals to your own. Lots of folks go out for drinks after work or spend their lunch breaks together. See if perhaps you can meet for a spin class or something instead.
Plus, there’s the added bonus of strengthening workplace bonds. Working out together will likely elevate your relationship in addition to your mood.
If you’re paying a premium for a trainer, you’re certainly not going to throw money away by being a no-show.
Not only will a trainer provide that accountability check, but they’ll also help you optimize your workouts to suit your needs. It’s a win/win. Not only will you drag yourself out of bed, but you’ll also even get a customized routine with one-on-one assistance.
Not a people-person? No friends that are interested in getting fit? No worries. Dogs make incredible fitness partners because they force you to be more responsible.
Simply walking your dog is better exercise than staying in bed. Of course, that’s only the start of what you and your canine companion can do together.
Can’t have pets? Volunteer at a local shelter. Need even more motivation? Register online to be a dog walker. That way you’ll even earn a little extra income while you get some exercise. You’ll be financially motivated, responsible, and you’ll get a workout, too.
Alternatively, you could try goat yoga or horseback riding.
