Addicted to Starbucks? Here are Your Healthiest Drink Options

There’s something about Starbucks that just lures so many of us in, regardless of how we try to avoid it. We know we don’t need that Frappucino, but it’s Double Star Day or happy hour, or, hey, we deserve it.

And maybe we do deserve it, but that doesn’t mean it’s a healthy choice. However, you don’t have to give up your ‘bux fix just yet.

Perhaps you could instead try switching to a healthier option? Don’t worry, you can keep your caffeine.

Simply transitioning from a regular to a skinny latte can cut the calories in half right there. Here are some other tips for ordering healthier drinks.

Caffè Misto

When you’re in desperate need of caffeine but want to cut back on the calories, here’s an easy option. Order a low-fat or skim Caffè Misto. Instead of espresso, these are made with coffee; plus, they also use less milk than lattes do.

Want it sweetened? Get it with a pump of the sugar-free syrup.

Cappuccino

There’s nothing wrong with ordering a cappuccino, only in over-sweetening it. In fact, you can even order it with whole milk. Because these use foamed milk, they’re already somewhat low in calories despite how creamy and indulgent they seem.

The key is to avoid pumping your cappuccino full of sugar. Instead, try cinnamon, vanilla, or even cocoa powder.

Tea (Iced or Hot)

One of the healthiest drink options you can order at Starbucks is tea. Whether you prefer green, black, white, or one of their specialty herbal flavors, these are all fantastic choices. They’re nearly free of calories and they’re hydrating, though the caffeine levels vary.

Unfortunately, if you’re looking for a kick, they are all lower in caffeine than most of the chain’s coffee drinks.

Cold Brew

If you’re a fan of iced coffee and haven’t tried cold brew, you don’t know what you’ve been missing. As a bonus, thanks to the lower acidity, these seem a little sweeter than iced coffee without even adding anything.

Additionally, these give more bang for your buck since they have more caffeine than a regular old iced coffee.

What to Avoid

If you’re trying to keep your order healthy, there are a few things to certainly avoid – including Frappucinos. Sadly, most of their frozen drinks are more of a dessert than a beverage. So, unless you’re out to indulge, you might want to skip these.

Thinking about sweetening your tea with lemonade? You might want to hold off, because that is a heck of a lot of sugar right there. A simple grande tea with lemonade added has a staggering 22 grams of sugar.

Other than those, whipped toppings are also a major addition of calories in the form of fat and sugar.
