Spotify’s Most Popular Workout Songs of All Time

While routines and equipment are important, quite few of us like to exercise in silence.

Most of us either have workout playlists or at least listen to other people’s lists at the gym. So, it comes as no surprise that Spotify is taking note of what we listen to the most when working out.

Workout Playlist

The Top 5

Music is a serious motivator when we’re actively trying to stay fit. That’s why it’s no surprise that Eminem’s tracks like Till I Collapse and Lose Yourself tops the list. (Yes, those are respectively the no. 1 and 2 top workout songs of all time according to Spotify.)

The 3rd and 4th most popular songs both belong to Kanye West. Stronger takes the bronze medal when it comes to popular workout tracks, and POWER is 4th on Spotify’s list.

Rounding out the 5th spot is Can’t Hold Us by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

Gender Bias

Eminem’s top track is the most popular song for men to work out to. Women appear to have other preferences. Till I Collapse remains the top track amongst all groups combined. However, the top song for women didn’t even make the top 5.

Curious what that song is? The top workout song for women is apparently Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars.

What’s also interesting is that the top three groups that stream the most workout music are all comprised of women. When it comes to using Spotify for workout tunes, women aged 35-44 listen to it the most.

Age Differences

Spotify’s infographic regarding workout music also noted what the top songs were based on listeners’ ages. Though Eminem is popular with those in their teens, twenties, and thirties, older folks prefer different tunes.

For those in their 40s and 50s, Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger reigns supreme. Over 55? Apparently, a lot of seniors are working out to All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor. Interesting, isn’t it? Who knew Meghan Trainor would be so popular with the older crowd?

Popularity of Workout Playlists

As we already noted, music really is important to many people’s workouts. Are we surprised that Spotify counted over 43.5 million workout playlists on their platform? Nope, not even remotely.

Of course, these playlists do vary throughout the world. In Sweden, yoga music is surprisingly popular, whereas the Finns appear to prefer more fast-paced options.

With cryotherapy becoming a big trend in 2018, many folks have created themed playlists for that as well. The most common song for such playlists is, of course, Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice – go figure.

Don’t feel like creating your own, personalized list? Don’t worry, Spotify has quite a lot of pre-made workout lists for you to choose from.
