There are several things you can do daily to help optimize your brain and enhance your well-being. Much like the daily diet that your body needs to remain healthy, your mind has it’s own daily dietary needs.
Let’s look at the top seven ways you can help your brain become both healthier and smarter.
Focus Time – This involves focusing on tasks in a way that challenges your brain. Training your brain to tackle your tasks in a goal-oriented manner makes your brain work harder, enhancing your brain matter.
Play Time – Make new connections in your brain by having fun, being spontaneous and enjoying the little moments, playfully.
Connections – Connecting with other people allows our minds to activate our brain’s relational system. Get out and connect with friends, co-workers or strangers to exercise this part of your brain.
Physical – Release those endorphins in your brain by getting off the couch and moving! Daily exercise is essential to strengthen not only your body, but your mind.
Internal Time – This involves reflecting internally to integrate your brain with each experience and the world around us. Focusing on sensations, feelings, thoughts and mental images.
Down Time – Our minds need time to relax and meditate in order to recharge. Allowing your brain to wind down and turn off to the point of not focusing on any single thing is a great way to recharge.
Sleep – Getting the proper amount of sleep helps your mind consolidate what you’ve taken in during the day so that it can recover from the days experience.
Our minds have multiple functions that need activity to nourish and grow. By conforming to the healthy mind diet, you activate each of the different parts of the brain. By doing so, your brain will grow and become mentally stronger.
Keep in mind that as you age, it is even more important to give your mind the much needed attention required on a day-to-day basis.
